Ep 6 - Sculpture - Hilarie Mais
FROM THE SCULPTURE COLLECTION: HILARIE MAIS
In this episode, we visit the gallery and studio of sculptor Hilarie Mais.
Hilarie's formative years as an artist began in London, followed by a productive period in New York in the late 1970s. For the last 40 years, she has settled in Sydney and enjoyed a highly successful career from Australia.
Hilarie's practice demonstrates an extraordinary dedication to the modernist 'grid', with each of her works beginning from this formal starting point. Hilarie has worked with the aesthetic possibilities of the grid for over 30 years and our final conversation for the season explores how she has been able to maintain her extraordinary commitment to this singular focus.
