Friday 26 January: Come for the art, stay for the live music. Kick off your Australia Day afternoon with a summer party set by DJ Tikabox from 5pm in the Gallery's sculpture garden. Unwind with a drink at our pop-up bar or join in our still life drawing activities inspired by the beauty of Australian native flora, and current exhibitions PAINTING MEMORY: From the collection and EVERYTHING CHANGES: Tim Maguire 2002 - 2017.

Friday 23 February: Explore the Gallery for an evening of ‘mono’ themed art and culture, inspired by the exhibition GRISAILLE: Shades of grey from the collection.
Local music by: solo singer-guitarist Mark Wells (5-7pm)
Exhibition micro-talk: Tobias Spitzer, Technical Officer, Newcastle Art Gallery (from 7pm)
Stand-up comedy: Jarrod Moore from the UoN Comedy Club (short-set after 7pm)
Plus: Uno, Checkers and Solitaire game action.
ALSO: Exclusive Singles Mixer in the Gallery sculpture garden: 6:00 - 8:30pm

Friday 24 November: live music by local musician James Bennett and step back into your childhood for a night of giant over-sized memory games. Test your own memory, or challenge a friend! 

Friday 27 October: engage with art making activities and view large projections in the activated spaces on Laman street during the celebratory street party for the Newcastle Region Library 60th birthday.  Plus, join us for micro-talks exploring the stories and memories of our iconic works of art, held throughout the evening.

Friday 29 September: guest artist Kevina-Jo Smith’s interactive installation #Protestbooth presented by Critical Animals during This Is Not Art. ALSO - short performances of the dark comedic drama Pope Head: The Secret Life of Francis Bacon performed by Gary Roost will also occur at intervals throughout the evening.

Friday 25 August: join KILGOUR PRIZE 2017 finalist and local artist Lucas Grogan in a drop-in style collaborative art project responding to the idea of ‘the self’ through text or imagery. 

Friday 28 July: enjoy a performance by Earthen Rhythms African Drum & Dance and receive a free tasting plate hand-selected from the menu at Habesha Ethiopian Restaurant.

Friday 30 June: see large scale projections of artist’s work coming out of the community program This is Me. Facilitated by Simone Darcy, Lindy Gemmell and Connectability - young teen girls living in Newcastle use photography as a vehicle to build awareness and resilience around self-esteem, positive body image and self-identity. This month's line-up will also feature live music by local band Rattle Bone.

Friday 26 May: be lead on a journey through fragrance at our perfume bar, presented by Jocelyn from Cult of Scent. Jocelyn will have a range of smells on hand - see if you can pick them!

Friday 28 April: have a go at life drawing (working from a clothed male model), enjoy tunes provided by DJ Tikabox, and check out the gymnasium installation performers in the exhibition MAGIC MIKE.

Friday 31 March: enjoy complimentary health shakes and bliss balls, or if you prefer there is always the standard fare for sale at our pop-up bar. Then at around 6pm - work up a sweat with free entry to 1980s style aerobic workouts presented by Fondalicious! (Don’t just look good, look Jane Fonda good!) OR- you could join in on a Bike Tour and exhibition crawl starting at the Lock Up.

Friday 24 February: temporary sound and light installations by Newcastle artists positioned in and around the Gallery. Check out artists Dale Collier,  Huw Jones @foxcontrolmusic and Zackari Watt on their instagram pages.

Friday 27 January: enjoy impromptu contemporary dance performances 'All over the Shop' by Catapult Dance and free live music by Indie/Pop central coast-based band: The Little Quirks.
