A nationally recognised artist: the culture and art practice of Toby Cedar 

Join Torres Strait Islander artist Toby Cedar as he shares his practice, culture, and connection to Newcastle Art Gallery. Cedar's work has been nationally recognised and can be found in major public collections such as the National Gallery of Victoria and National Gallery of Australia. In 2020, Cedar won the 3D Sculpture Award at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair. He was also a finalist in the 2021 Telstra NATSIAA Awards and the 67th Blake Prize.  Alongside his artistic practice, Cedar delivers cultural programs and workshops for schools and local organisations. 

Toby Cedar played an integral role in the award-winning exhibition WARWAR: The Art of the Torres Strait at Newcastle Art Gallery in 2021.

About Coffee with Art

On the first Wednesday of the month, from February to November, enjoy morning tea and hear from artists, curators, designers and specialists in the visual arts.

Please note: Due to the Newcastle Art Gallery expansion project, this event will be held in the Lord Mayoral Reception Room at Newcastle City Hall.
