Coinciding with Newcastle Food Month and in celebration of the closing weekend of the exhibition VOID, Newcastle Art Gallery invites you to a Gallery wide, family-friendly, celebration of Aboriginal art, food and culture.
Experience the unique flavours of Australian native spices at the Oz Tukka pop-up stall, who will be offering limited free tastings of Wattleseed, Lemon Myrtle and Davidson Plum mini muffins. Watch a spear shaping demonstration with local Worimi man Luke Russell from Wylaa Buuranliyn. Hear contemporary and traditional Aboriginal songs on the Yidaki (Didgeridoo) by Uncle Perry Fuller. Enjoy a special dance performance by Jesse Murray from Catapult Dance in response to the exhibition VOID. Explore traditional and contemporary Aboriginal craft through artmaking activities and demonstrations.

About the line-up
Uncle Perry Fuller is from Kamilaroi Country (Coonabarabran). He is an accomplished Yidaki (Didgeridoo) player who has been playing for over 10 years and has a wide repertoire of Yidaki playing, both contemporary and traditional rhythms.
Oz Tukka are a local Redhead based business that specialise in authentic Australian flavours also known as bush food, bush tucker (tukka) or Australian native spices. Oz Tukka have a range of unique and multi award-winning products that includes native bush food spices, macadamia nut oils, macadamia nut dukkah, spice mixes and gluten free muffin mixes. Oz Tukka endeavours to source as much product as possible in a way that supports Aboriginal enterprises.
Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub in partnership with Newcastle Art Gallery presents a new contemporary dance performance work by Jesse Murray in response to exhibition VOID. Jesse Murray, is an Aboriginal man of the Wiradjuri nation. Jesse has performed in works created by choreographers such as; Sidney Saltner, Chantal Kerr, Patrick Thaiday, Frances Rings, Craig Bary, Debra Brown and Joshua Thomson as well as cultural works by Matthew Doyle and Dujon Nuie. Jesse’s professional highlights are Dance Rites at the Sydney Opera House 2016 -2019, Legs On The Wall’s Hillbilly Thriller 2019, was a collaborator for NAISDA at Arts8 2019 at the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Catapult Dance’s Mixed Bill, and has performed at the Yabun Festival for the last 3 years. The residency will be supported by Catapult producer Craig Barry, as well as choreographer and performer Daniel Riley who has come on board as a cultural support and mentor for Jesse.
