The Mirror and the Palette
Rebellion, Revolution and Resilience: 500 Years of Women’s Self-Portraits by Jennifer Higgie (Weidenfeld & Nicolson 2021)

Over the centuries Western Art History has been the domain of male artists. Spanning 500 years, art critic Jennifer Higgie addresses this anomaly. Part biography, part cultural history, Higgie brings female artists to the fore. Their individual stories exemplify rebellion, revolution and resilience in the face of social, cultural and religious constraints.
