Settle in with a glass of wine and get creative alongside with local artists John Earle, Nick Fintan and Perth-based artist Rachelle Dusting, as they demonstrate techniques to coax out your inner artist. Drawing and painting is one of the easiest ways to conjure up a creative mindset while at home. In this online workshop series, the KILGOUR PRIZE 2021 finalists will show participants how to use basic art materials to explore the figurative and portraiture genre.

About the Artists:

John Earle (b.1955 Newcastle NSW) is based in Newcastle, NSW, and graduated in 1980 from Newcastle Art School. John had his first solo exhibition in 1981 and many solo exhibitions since then in Newcastle, Sydney and Melbourne. His art practice over 40 years includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics. Beside his art practice, John has taught in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions. He now resides in Merewether where he runs his own studio/gallery assisted by his wife Amanda. John is a finalist in the Kilgour Prize 2021.

Rachelle Dusting (b.1991 Gosnells WA) is based in Perth, WA, and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts Degree (Hons) from the University of Western Australia and in 2021 with a Graduate Certificate for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from Notre Dame University. Her studio is based at Goolugatup Heathcote Precinct, where she works on private and public commissions, exhibition projects and tutors fine arts privately. 

Since graduating, Rachelle has spent time teaching at the University of Western Australia, running visual art incursions across schools in WA, and working with global organisations like Watoto International. Her works span several genres from realistic oil painting to large-scale public artworks. Rachelle is a current member of the Mandorla Art Award committee, in the role of social media management. Rachelle's vision is to make a greater contribution towards Australia’s creative culture and uplift the art community. Rachelle is a finalist in the Kilgour Prize 2021.

Nick Fintan (b.1981 Sydney NSW) is a contemporary Australian artist based in Newcastle, NSW. He studied painting at the National Art School in Sydney. He has held four solo exhibitions and has exhibited in various group shows. Nick has been a finalist in several art prizes, including the Kilgour Prize 2021, the Blake Prize and the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship.
