This month, join us after-hours for an evening of music, story time and games hosted by the Torres Strait Islander community, inspired by the exhibition WARWAR: The Art of Torres Strait.

Line Up: 

  • Live music by Kululu Waria

  • Delve into virtual reality games with local Torres Strait Islander educator Genus Passi

  • Story time with exhibiting artist Toby Cedar

  • Pop-up bar from 5-8pm 


About the artists: 

Kululu Waria is a singer/songwriter whose pop sound can be attributed to the eclectic range of music she heard growing up. Her warm and inviting presence will draw you in but it’s her raw yet sincere performances that’ll keep you around.

Genus Passi, is a local Torres Strait Islander Educator. He is a program coordinator at Youth Express, a not for profit organisation that services the Hunter Valley Region. Their vision is to develop significant & sustainable partnerships that facilitate rewarding futures for local young people.

Toby Cedar is a local Torres Strait Islander artist with bloodline connections to Erub, Mer and Moa Islands. Born in Dampier (Western Australia). He currently lives and works in the Hunter region. Toby is influenced by his culture, particularly his father’s stories about his youth on the islands, hunting, fishing, gardening, dance and family life. He and his two sons enjoy performing traditional and contemporary dances.

Last Fridays is a free monthly art party featuring local and national emerging and established artists, makers and musicians. A tactile, sensory and social series of events that incorporate art, music and interaction – get your cultural fix after dark.

All are welcome to come along! All persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Newcastle Art Gallery practices the responsible service of alcohol.
