Frequently Asked Questions about the Art Appraisal Day

How many works of art and what types can I bring?
A 15-minute session provides enough time for the appraiser to view 1-3 works of art. If you have more than three works, we recommend you make an additional 15-minute session booking.

Do I need to supply the original work of art for the advice day?
Yes, bring along your 1-3 works of art on the day. Please ensure it is securely wrapped or packaged to protect it while you are visiting. If it is not possible to bring on the day, due to the size or fragility, please take a good quality photo and make sure you include close up pictures of any key details such as a signature of the artist, or a receipt of purchase, etc.

Will the appraiser provide me with a written valuation?
The advice you receive will be verbal only and should be considered a preliminary valuation. It’s a great opportunity to gauge the approximate value of your work and to assess the necessity of a written valuation, which is more costly. You can enquire with the appraiser directly for advice on how to arrange a written valuation.

Can more than one person such as a friend, grandparent or partner participate in the advice day?
A maximum of two chairs will be available for the session.

Do I need to wear a mask and bring proof of vax?
The Gallery is currently adhering to the requirements set out in the NSW Government Public Health Order. This includes proof of vaccination before entry, masks for patrons 12 years and over, QR code check-in, and a capacity limit of 1 person per 4sqm.

Do I need to book my session in advance or can I just show up on the day?
Bookings and payment are required. To secure a 15-minute session you will need to book via the external website link 'trybookings'.

How do I know if I have booked a session?
You will be directed to visit the external website link 'trybookings' to make payment and secure the session. Once this has been completed you will receive an email from 'trybookings' confirming the session, date and time.

Do I need to arrive early for my appraisal session?
The sessions start on time, so we advise you arrive 5 minutes early to sign in and get set up in our waiting area. Please allow sufficient time for parking in the CBD. Free ½ hour parking is available at the front of the Gallery.

Will there be photos taken at the session?
We often have a photographer capturing all of the excitement during our events. These photographs will often be used on our website or in a flyer to promote future appraisal days - but if you prefer not to be photographed that can be easily accommodated.

Can I get an exchange or refund if I can't make it on the day?
Exchange or refund of a ticket can be available up to 48 hours prior to your booked session. Please contact the Gallery via Phone: 02 4974 5100 or Email: artgallery@ncc.nsw.gov.au. We strive to keep the appraisal days affordable for participants, please be aware that last-minute cancellations and refunds cannot be accommodated.
