Frequently Asked Questions about the Art Appraisal Days
How many works of art and what types of works can I bring?
The 15 minute sessions are timed to provide enough time with the appraiser for 1-3 artworks. Artworks could include ceramics, paintings and prints. If you have more than three artworks for appraisal or conservation advice, we recommend you make an additional 15 minute session booking.
Do I need to supply the original artwork for the advice day?
Yes, we recommend that you bring along your artwork or works on the day. Please ensure it is securely wrapped or packaged so as to protect it whilst you are visiting us. If it is not possible to bring your artwork on the day, due to the size or fragility, please take several good quality photos and make sure you include any key details such as a signature of the artist, a photo of the back of the artwork, or a receipt of purchase, etc.
Will the appraiser provide me with a written valuation?
The advice you receive on this day will be verbal only, and should be considered a preliminary valuation. It’s a great opportunity to gauge the approximate value of your artworks and to assess the necessity of a written valuation, which is more costly. The appraiser is certified to provide written valuations and you are welcome to enquire with them directly for advice on how to arrange one.
Who is the appraiser?
Annette Larkin is a contemporary art dealer, valuer and adviser based in Sydney. For more information about her services, you can visit the 'about' section on the website: www.annettelarkin.com
Can more than one person such as a friend or partner participate in the advice day?
Absolutely, we will have two chairs available for you during the session.
Do I need to book my session in advance or can I just show up on the day?
Bookings and payment are required in advance. Please note, our appraisal days book out very fast; to ensure you secure a session you will need to book as soon as you can online. Please visit the website and use the direct link we have provided on the event page.
How do I know if I have booked a session?
You will be directed to visit the external website 'trybookings' to make payment and secure the session. Once this has been completed you will receive an email from 'trybookings' confirming the session, date and time.
Do I need to arrive early for my appraisal session?
The sessions start on time, so we advise you arrive 5 minutes early to sign in and get set up in our waiting area. Parking can be difficult in the CBD so be sure to allow sufficient time. Free ½ hour parking is available in front of the gallery.
Will there be photos taken at the session?
We often have a photographer capturing all of the excitement during our events. These photographs will often be used on our website or in a flyer to promote future events - but if you prefer not to be photographed that can be easily accommodated.
Can I get an exchange or refund if I can't make it on the day?
Exchange or refund of a ticket can be available up to 48 hours prior to your booked session. For information about this, please contact the "Event Organiser". We strive to keep the appraisal days affordable for participants, please be aware that last minute cancellations and refunds cannot be accommodated.
To the extent permitted by law, the $0.30 booking fees paid by you to 'trybookings' will not be refunded in any circumstances (including where the ticket price has been refunded by the Event Organiser).
